2009 May 25

La fuerza armada en el centro de comunnicaciones de espacio lejano MadridThe Madrid Distance Space Communications Center (MDSCC) in Robledo de Chavela welcomed academic visitors from the Armed Forces last March 26 and April 22: the students of the 26th Course of Advanced Logistical Management organized by the Higher Center for National Defense Studies (CESEDEN) and the second-year students of the General Air Force Academy.

In both cases, after attending a presentation on the activities at the center and, in general, on Spain’s role in space, as well as touring the exhibit at the Robledo Training and Visitors Center, an in-depth visit of the various communications stations was carried out, including antennas with an aperture of 70 and 34 meters, and the control center.

The Station of Robledo, the management, operation and maintenance of which is the responsibility of the company INSA, along with the centers of Canberra in Australia and Goldstone in California, complete what is known as the Distant Space Network, which ensures permanent communications with NASA’s space exploration vehicles in the Solar System.
