Research and Development (R&D)

Within a sector of high technological specialization, Research and Development (R&D) activities –and thus the budget allocated to them- are an expression of the value-adding capability of a company, of its progress, and of its future potential.

The main strategic objectives of INSA regarding R&D are:

• Increase competitiveness, generating new solutions
• Maintain INSA’s technical excellence in our areas of activity
• Consolidate and improve designed systems and services
• Introduce solutions in new markets
• Maintain the highest qualification of the staff

R&D Plan

INSA’s R&D Plan draws the guidelines of action and their associated priorities, the procedures for brainstorming and gathering of ideas, and the procedures for approval and coordination of their execution. Furthermore, the Plan contains the rules for the assignation of budget and resources.

Finally, the Plan stipulates the necessary indicators for the critical analysis of the results: specific indicators for each R&D project or generic to all the R&D projects.

The main R&D priorities of INSA, considering their strategic interest for the company and/or their applicable internal excellence are:

• Space complexes centres: antenna arrays, X-band, accurate pointing mechanisms, TCC…
• Earth Observation: new generation algorithms for image processing, UAV’s, aerostatic platforms, etc…
• Satellite communications: optical communications, X-band equipment, personal positioning, self-pointing antennas, etc…
• Software Engineering: stations’ M&C, remote sensing data processors, simulators, Geographical Information Systems, etc…
• Security: remote surveillance, IR technology, remote sensing, UAVs, Galileo, etc…
• Civil Aeronautics: clean energies, civil applications of UAV’s, etc…

INSA’s R&D coordinator manages the definition, execution and evaluation of R&D projects according to the guidelines established by the several directorates of the company and following the budget strategy given in the R&D plan.
