Telecommunications and satellite networks

Satélite para telecomunicacionesThis Department is focused on Satellite Telecommunications Engineering, in particular on the conception of systems that require an effort in the adaptation to the specific needs of the clients and the integration within their existing systems.

These different activities cover the whole project lifecycle: from feasibility analysis to design, development, integration, delivery, and customer support.

The main references are:

  • Secure communications network for the Spanish Exterior Ministry: INSA has designed and deployed a TCP/IP over TDMA secure satellite network, to provide voice, data and videoconference services to the Spanish Exterior Ministry. Final network state will consist of 220 nodes worldwide.
  • Argentinean Air Force Network: design, configuration and commissioning of the central hub and hardware supply both of the central hub and of the remote nodes. The network is transmitting VoIP and radar data for the Argentinean Air Force covering the whole national territory.
  • CAFSAT Network: Establishment of a satellite communications network to service the air traffic control between the Canary Islands and different countries in Western Africa. This network has provided a substantial improvement in air traffic safety of the Europe-South America corridor.

  • COCESNA Network: Satellite Communications Network with 15 nodes that satisfy the communication needs of voice, radar data, AFTN and other administrative uses to the five countries that belong to COCESNA (Corporación Centroamericana de Servicios de Navegación Aérea).
  • Amazonas GCS, 2002-2004: Procurement of the Ground Control Segment (GCS) elements for the AMAZONAS satellite. This GCS interconnects the AMAZONAS tracking and control centres, property of HISPASAT, in Spain, Brazil and Mexico.
  • AMAZONAS II: HISPASAT satellite that has a predicted life of 15 years. With this satellite, the operator will be able to provide a wide variety of advanced services of telecommunications to North America and South America.
  • HISPASAT 1D: Establishment of a satellite communications link for the HISPASAT satellite between Arganda del Rey (Madrid) and Maspalomas (Gran Canaria) and modification and adaptation of existing stations.
  • XSAT: Project for the development of a commercial X-band Terminal as an own INSA product to operate in the field of governmental communications. The first demonstrations using real space capabilities (XTAR, HISPASAT) were successfully accomplished in July 2005.
